Good news for Island schools Grand Island Dispatch, May 5, 2006
This was a great week for Grand Island Schools, so good, in fact, that the Grand Island Town Board issued a proclamation acknowledging the outstanding achievements. Newsweek magazine recently named Grand Island High School as the 730th Best High School in the nation, based on the number of students taking advanced placement exams; Business First newspaper has ranked Connor Middle School as the 10th Best Middle School in Western New York out of 141 middle schools; and the district moved up in overall Business First rankings from 16th to 12th. Shown in the photo, from left, are Councilman Gary Roesch, Councilwoman Susan Argy, Town Supervisor Peter McMahon, teacher Jayne Shaber, Middle School Principal Bruce Benson, teacher Mary Therrien and High School Principal Dr. James Dempsey. Benson told his staff, “Thanks to your hard work with our kids, we have reached this goal. Thank you.” Superintendent Dr. Thomas Ramming congratulated colleagues and said, “Please accept my sincere ‘thank you’ for your hard work and dedication to our students.” (photo by Frederick Claus) |
