Stella Niagara to host science fair April 1

Lewiston Porter Sentinel, March 18, 2006

Stella Niagara Education Park in Lewiston will host the third annual Niagara County Science Fair on April 1, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The fair, which is open to students in grades 5 through 8, encourages middle school students at public, private, parochial and home schools to prepare scientific research projects.

“Through greater participation, we are looking to make our third year even better,” said Susan Sinski, Science Fair project director and teacher at Stella Niagara. “Students may participate as school science fair winners representing their school or may enter as individuals who have an interest in science.”

While most students participate through their schools, teachers or parents can also sponsor children who are interested in participating in this event. Mentors and other knowledgeable scientists are also available for students looking for outside assistance.

During the competition, students will present their research findings to a jury. The judges will award certificates in the areas of excellence, honors and merit. In addition, one project in each grade will earn the distinction as “Best Environmental Science Project.”

The Niagara County Science Fair is sponsored by Stella Niagara Education Park, the Environmental Leadership Institute at Niagara University, the Niagara County Environmental Fund and the New York Power Authority.

This event is open to the public.
