Brown criticizes Broderick’s appointment of Carney Lewiston Porter Sentinel, March 25, 2006 Patrick D. Brown, CPA, candidate for Niagara County treasurer, is accusing his political opponent, county Treasurer David Broderick, of playing politics with his recent appointment of a deputy. Brown says Broderick’s recent appointment of County Legislature Clerk Michael Carney as the new deputy county treasurer is “like the ‘friends and family plan’ that created problems in Erie County.” Brown says the move clears the way for Conservative Party Chairman James Sobczyk to replace Carney as Legislature clerk, just days after Sobczyk and his party endorsed Broderick for re-election. “Instead of choosing a financial professional as deputy county treasurer, Mr. Broderick is playing politics with the people’s money for his personal gain,” Brown said. “This is a slap in the face to all the hardworking taxpayers of Niagara County.” “Clearly, we need a change in the county treasurer’s office,” Brown said. “The current treasurer is under the direct control of party bosses. He is not the independent watchdog we need.” Brown said if he is elected treasurer, his appointments would be “based on professional qualifications and experience, not political connections.” |
