40 teams signed up for Relay Grand Island Dispatch, March 24, 2006 More than 40 teams and 480 participants are already registered for Grand Island’s Relay for Life, scheduled for Friday, June 9, and Saturday, June 10, at the Grand Island High School football field. The first Relay For Life Team Captain Meeting, held March 14 at the high school’s large cafeteria, was well attended and enthusiastic. Many fund-raising activities were discussed by the teams, and money already raised was banked. The American Cancer Society has planned a nationwide “Paint the Town Purple” campaign for Monday, May 1. Purple ribbons will be available at no charge. Come by the deSignet Jewelry Store at 1869 Whitehaven Road between April 1 and May 1 and get a few yards of the ribbon to tie around a tree or bush in your yard or decorate your car or mailbox. People are encouraged to be creative and show their neighbors that they care about the fight against cancer. Mary Dunbar-Daluisio and Town Supervisor Peter McMahon are the co-chairs for the 2006 Relay For Life. Other leaders for this year’s event are:
