Federspiel earns Rookie of the Year title

Grand Island Dispatch, March 17, 2006

After capturing Rookie of the Year honors last season, Grand Island racer Geoff Federspiel is looking forward to another successful year.

Grand Island has a long history of residents involved in different forms of motorsports. One of the latest local talents making a name for himself is 13-year-old Geoff Federspiel.

After coming off a very successful year in go-kart racing, the young driver moved on to dirt-track competition, where he had an equally great season in the Microsprints Division.

Competing at Limerock Speedway, a 1/8-mile oval located east of Leroy, Federspiel finished sixth overall among the 15 entries in his class to earn the Rookie of the Year title. Entered by Federspiel Racing of Grand Island, he also raced at the Starlite Speedway and the Paradise Speedway in Geneva where he scored two victories.

Federspiel’s father, Jim, started his son in racing after working himself for a couple of seasons for Tim Phillips Racing. Young Federspiel’s dream is to race a full-sized sprint car or anything else as long as it is on dirt. For 2006, he will compete in an updated car, powered by a new motor prepared by Hot-To-Go Racing.

Federspiel Racing wishes to thank Tim Phillips Garage, Mike Davis and Grand Island NAPA, as well as all friends who helped young Geoff’s racing endeavors.
