Happy Birthday at ElderWood

Nursing home residents at ElderWood Health Care at Riverwood enjoyed a party last week in honor of those residents celebrating March birthdays. Pianist Richard Dagenais and vocalist Elaine Zielin provided the entertainment. Their program featured music from “The Great American Songbook,” by composers such as George and Ira Gershwin and Fats Waller; a variety of songs from many great Broadway shows of the 1930s and ’40s; and sing-along tunes by “Tin Pan Alley” composers. Dagenais and Zielin have been presenting programs at nursing homes for almost two years, encouraging residents to enjoy and reminisce with music from their younger years. Naturally, “Happy Birthday” was on the program. In the photo above, activities leader Kathryn Kalesar serves up portions of birthday cake.
