Dunbar is the new principal at Sidway

Grand Island Dispatch, March 17, 2006

Denise Dunbar has been appointed principal of Charlotte Sidway Elementary School effective April 24, the Grand Island School District announced Tuesday. She replaces Interim Principal Henry Peters.

Dunbar is currently principal of Pembroke Primary School.

Dunbar told the Dispatch that she is a Grand Island High School graduate, but she has never taught here. Her 20 years of teaching and administrative experience have been in schools in the City of Rochester, the Town of LeRoy, where she served as an assistant principal, and now in the Town of Pembroke.

“I do have family and friends on the Island, and they say that Sidway is a wonderful place to be,” Dunbar said.

She also brings a strong background in Early Literacy and Everyday Math.

The district will hold a reception for staff and parents to meet Dunbar later this month.
