Tim Fargino and John Connors represented Grand Island at New York State Winter Indoor Track and Field Championships, held last weekend at Cornell University.

The two placed third at the Section VI State Qualifier and were members of an all-intersectional medley relay team made up of Section VI runners. In addition to Fargino and Connors, the quartet included a 600-meter runner from Amherst and a 1,600-meter athlete from West Seneca West.

Fargino led off the relay with a time of 2:41.72 in the 1,000-meter segment, handing off in seventh place to Connors, who moved up the team to fourth place after completing a 200-meter lap in 24.7. Despite the Amherst runner’s performance, which dropped the team back to last place in the next segment, the 1,600-meter runner from West Seneca West did his best to earn eighth place at the finish line.

Both Fargino and Connors gained valuable experience at the state level, earning a certificate and a Sectional patch. The two will vie for another trip to the state finals during the upcoming outdoor track season.
