Professional Certificate in Geographic Information Systems at NU

Lewiston Porter Sentinel, February 11, 2006

The Office of Continuing and Community Education, in conjunction with Niagara University’s Environmental Leadership Institute, will offer a professional certificate program in Geographical Information Systems beginning this May.

GIS, or digital mapping, takes information from databases and spreadsheets and charts it on an interactive map. The U.S. Department of Labor has identified GIS technology as “one of the three most important emerging and evolving fields.”

The core course, Introduction to Geographic Information Systems and ArcGIS 9.x, will be offered May 11-13, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., in ELI’s dedicated GIS lab in Dunleavy Hall. Dr. Sheen Rajmaira, executive director of ELI, will be the instructor.

To register, contact the NU Office of Continuing and Community Education at 286-8181, or online at http://www.niagara.edu/cce.
