Falcons keep on winning

The Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons Varsity Club Hockey team kept their winning streak alive this with victories over Grand Island, Livingston and Niagara Falls.

Nick Melligan and Kevin Ogiba each had three goals and two assists to power the Falcons to a 7-3 victory over Grand Island on Jan. 16 at Hyde Park Ice Pavilion. Travis Maggard tallied one goal for Niagara-Wheatfield. Kyle Cliffe and Matt Beamish each picked up one assist.

The Melligan and Ogiba show continued in a 12-3 drubbing of Livingston on Jan. 21 at Hyde Park Ice Pavilion. Melligan registered five goals and three assists, while Ogiba had four goals and four assists. Beamish contributed one goal and five assists. Mike Folino and Ryan Altieri each scored one goal in the victory. Cliffe collected three assists. Maggard picked up two assists, while Bob Kostiw, Matt Attfield and Folino each had one assist. Dave Edwards and Mike Slawich shared the goaltending duties.

The Falcons wrapped up the week with a lopsided 12-0 victory over Niagara Falls on Jan. 22 at Hyde Park Ice Pavillon. Melligan led the team with two goals and eight assists, while Ogiba scored another hat trick and picked up three assists. Cliffe and Kostiw each had two goals and one assist. Beamish contributed one goal and three assists. Maggard and Folino each tallied one goal. Altieri registered one assist. Corey Shaffer was impenetrable in goal as he recorded another shutout for the Falcons.
