Niagara Sports Dinner set for Feb. 6 Lewiston Porter Sentinel, January 28, 2006 The Niagara University Athletics Department will hold its annual Niagara Sports Dinner on Monday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. at Antonio’s Banquet Center, Niagara Falls. The event will include a family-style meal, a silent auction and a reverse draw. Proceeds will benefit the student-athletes competing at NU. The dinner is the main fund-raiser of the Athletics Department. Last year, the event raised $9,000. NU Athletics Director Mike Hermann hopes to raise $10,000 at this year’s dinner. “People who have attended this event in the past have told me they enjoy the sports dinner because the atmosphere is casual and the university supporters have an opportunity to visit with our coaches and some of our outstanding student-athlete leaders,” he said. “It’s become a great tradition for the Niagara community, and it raises funds that we target for special projects that benefit our student-athletes. We are certainly appreciative of those (who) attend this event.” Auction items include a Randy Staub-signed Coopertown bat commemorating his and Ty Cobb’s achievement of having hit home runs in four different decades; a football signed by Buffalo Bill London Fletcher; and the opportunity to be a ball kid at the Feb. 8 Purple Eagles men’s basketball game against Canisius College. Jerry Wolfgang and Jim Fernandez will serve as co-chairs of the event. All ticket holders will have the chance to win a $1,000 grand prize in the reverse draw.
