Ross recognized by Niagara Town Board by Ralph Schwarz
The Niagara Town Board bid good-bye to Councilman Michael Ross at last Tuesday’s meeting. Visibly moved, the longtime town resident accepted the praise from his fellow board members who presented him with a plaque of appreciation for his dedicated services to the Town of Niagara. “During my 10 years as town supervisor, I met a lot of very fine people,” said Town Supervisor Steven Richards. “I didn’t know Mike a lot when he came on board, but we became good friends and our friendship will always be there.” Richards credited Ross for being “a standup guy.” “His integrity was never ever put on the line,” Richards said. “He did what was right for this town.” Served Town Well “You served the town well, and I’m sure all the board members appreciate that,” said Councilman Lavern Haseley, while Deputy Town Supervisor said he always enjoyed working with Ross. In a brief farewell speech, Ross thanked his fellow councilmen as well as the taxpayers for giving him the opportunity to serve the town. “We worked as a team and accomplished a lot in the last four years,” Ross said, grasping for words. “During those four years, I met new friends, which will be my friends for life. I also appreciate the courtesy the town employees gave me during my four years in office.” After the meeting, Ross said that he will continue his charity work for various local non-profit organizations. “And I also wish everybody in the Town of Niagara a Merry Christmas,” he added. A mill operator for Ferro Electronic Materials for 13 years, Ross will relinquish his seat on the Town Board on Jan. 1, 2006. After serving four years as a councilman, the Democrat was voted out of office in the Nov. 8 elections. With Republican Jenelle Faso Messer and Democrat John Adams tied after a vote recount, a court will most likely determine who will take Ross’ seat on the Niagara Town Board.
