Teachers give to United Way Grand Island Dispatch, December 2, 2005
Grand Island Teachers’ Association members Anna Agnello, left, and Kathy Brown, right, give United Way representative Caryn Rasp, center, a check for $13,855 from the teachers association. The group has been very active this fall helping others in need. Over the past 15 years, the Grand Island Teachers Association has collected more than $176,000 and has maintained at least an 85 percent contribution rate from its members for the United Way. The teachers association had 16 walkers in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. These walkers raised $1,425 for the American Cancer Society. The group also donated $200 for the victims of Hurricane Katrina through the New York State United Teachers Association. Teachers, students, parents, staff and administrators have worked very hard at each individual school in the district as well. Kaegebein Elementary raised $3,697.73 by collecting coins. The Grand Island High School faculty and staff donated $750 to the Red Cross Hurricane Victims through its dress-down day fund. Middle School students, faculty, staff and administrators made individual baggies filled with necessary supplies for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in September and donated money through its dress-down day fund. Sidway School Faculty and staff donated $510 to the Salvation Army through dress-down day donations. |
