Letter of thanks on behalf of Lady Vikings

Grand Island Dispatch, December 16, 2005

The Lady Vikings Basketball Team recently participated in a tournament in California.

Recently, I had the pleasure of chaperoning the Grand Island Lady Vikings varsity basketball team to San Diego to compete in the Francis Parker High School Basketball Tournament.

The experience given to these young ladies went off without a hitch. For the past year the players have been fund-raising feverishly. Kudos to the community of Grand Island, without your help and support, we would not have achieved our goal.

Our players went to California excited and determined. Excited about traveling to the West Coast and determined to become not just players, but team players. Competing against very large California schools, we had no idea of how we would fare, yet that did not affect their determination.

Our team went on to a 2-win, 2-loss record and showed our competitiveness. These girls showed pride in who they were and represented Grand Island in the best possible way.

Speaking on behalf of the Lady Vikings I want to thank Superintendent Dr. Thomas Ramming, the Grand Island Board of Education and Athletic Director Jon Roth for their continued support. I must also thank Coach Banker for her commitment to Grand Island Girls Basketball and believing in this awesome group of girls. The camaraderie and confidence achieved will be something these girls will have forever.

With many thanks.
