Woman struck and killed on Bedell Road Grand Island Dispatch, December 16, 2005 A Grand Island Island woman has died of injuries sustained when she was struck by a car at 6:10 p.m. while crossing Bedell Road near Jamestown Road on Monday. State Police say Patricia Arcouet, 67, was walking northbound in front of her home in the 1500 block of Bedell Road to visit a neighbor, when she was hit. Police said the driver of the vehicle was traveling westbound. Rescue personnel from the Grand Island Fire Company responded within minutes and found Arcouet lying in the roadway. Fire Chief Greg Butcher said paramedics, led by EMS Capt. Sean Manning, immediately initiated advanced life support procedures, and continued them as Arcouet was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center for further medical attention. She died at ECMC at 7:15 p.m. No charges have been filed against the driver, pending the results of an investigation by an accident reconstruction team, according to State Police Sgt. Philip Bourque, station commander of the Niagara Barracks. Bourque said there were no adverse weather conditions at the time of the accident, but said that section of Bedell “is a dark road with no street lights.” Bourque was assisted in the investigation by Trooper Robert Marren of the Grand Island Substation. |
