Merton K.
(Mert) Wiepert has announced his candidacy for re-election
as Town of Porter supervisor. Mert was elected to the
Town Board in 1983 as councilman, appointed deputy supervisor,
then elected town supervisor in 2000.
"I believe my town experience as
councilman, deputy supervisor, budget officer, small
business owner and town supervisor qualifies me to continue
serving the Town of Porter in the capacity as supervisor,”
Wiepert said.
“Leadership means protecting the safety
and health of the town’s residents, along with maintaining
a tax rate that provides the services our residents
deserve to preserve good quality of life. The increases
in operating costs of the town and village of Youngstown
show the need to expand on shared services and possibly
combining some services or departments with Youngstown.
“The safety and health portion includes
some of the environmental issues that are located within
our community. I will continue to pursue and obtain
the results of all testing and monitoring of the LOOW
and NFFS sites to ensure our safety. |

“I am active in the development and implementation
of the Master Plan for Porter. All future development should
be within the scope of the Master Plan and zoning ordinances.
“I am a lifelong Porter resident. I married
Gloria and raised three daughters in the community. I serve
as a Niagara County Water Commissioner, member of Niagara
County Supervisors Association, Lower Niagara River Region
Chamber of Commerce where I am on the board of directors as
an Ev-Officios member, and the Town of Porter Republican Committee.
I also serve as an elder at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
“I am extremely proud of the Town of Porter
and would be greatly honored to continue to serve as its supervisor,”
Wiepert closed.
