Curves partners with Memorial on new approach to healthy living

Lewiston Porter Sentinel, June 4, 2005

Curves in Lewiston has partnered with the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to offer its members a new approach to wellness and healthy living. In coming weeks guest lecturers from Memorial’s Women’s Health and Community Outreach Education Program will visit Lewiston and provide members valuable information on women’s health issues to further enhance their well-being.

The first presentation will be on exercise and heart disease and is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Clark’s Burger house, 210 Portage Road in Lewiston.

Terry Rose, a master’s degree-trained physical therapist and Memorial’s director of Rehabilitation Services, and Tony Surace, manager of Sports Medicine and Athletic Training for University Sports Medicine of Niagara, a service of Memorial Medical Center, will conduct the program.

Surace, a certified athletic trainer, holds masters degrees in Education/Health and Physical Education (Sports medicine) from East Stroudsburg University and is a national lecturer on the topic of catastrophic athletic injury management.

Like Memorial, Curves provides a common sense weight management program that helps women improve their quality of life. “This is a perfect partnership because both organizations help people improve their quality of life through vital, up-to-date and results-oriented information,” Joseph Pillittere, owner/operator of Curves, said.

As part of the Curves program, members have an opportunity to win prizes every time they work out. This ensures a fun-filled workout with an added bonus. And based on this new partnership, Curves’ members will now have the opportunity to win dinners at those restaurants recognized for serving heart smart meals by Memorial Medical Center’s Heart Smart Program, Pillittere said.

He pointed out Curves is designed so women can encourage and support one another during their workout. The camaraderie helps women reach amazing results, both physical and emotional. ”Together with Memorial Medical Center’s Women’s Health and Community Education, we will continue to improve the health and wellness of women in Niagara County,” he said.
