Community unites in Relay for Life

Grand Island’s third Relay for Life was “a terrific success,” in the words of the
American Cancer Society’s Deb Bogdan.

Not only did Grand Island raise $86,000 for the fight against cancer, but the community also united in celebration of those who struggle against the disease. It was an outpouring of support and heartfelt evidence of a community that cares.

  

Above, left to right, the Dominant Force Grand Island Men’s Choir was one of many groups that provided beautiful music; at the close of the Lumunaria Ceremony, candles spell out the word,
“Hope;” the City of Thorold, Ontario, Bagpipe Band leads walkers in the Luminaria Ceremony; Debbie Bastian sings.

The track begins to fill with walkers and runners.  

Below, two teams that worked to make the Relay a success. On the left, the Polka Dot Chix Relay Team, led by 15- year-old Alicia Sommer, second from right in the back row, raised $4,000 for the Relay. On the right, Buses R Us team members sport bright, yellow T-shirts.
