Rotary Club Student of the Month: Melissa Roach

Melissa Roach has become very involved in both her school and her community throughout her years on the Island through her church, youth group and school.

For the past two summers, Roach has attended Reach Workcamps with the Trinity United Methodist Youth Group, where students have volunteered a week of their life to help repair and restore the homes of those who are unable or cannot afford it. She also has had the opportunity to volunteer in soup kitchens and to volunteer in other churches where needed.

Roach is active in her school, where she is a member of the Student Council and a former member of the junior varsity volleyball team. She has received several awards, some of which include honor and high honor roll status throughout her middle and high school years. She also received the outstanding academic achievement award, pin and letter.

Roach has been active in band since her years at Huth Road, and is now a member of the distinguished wind ensemble, where she plays the flute. She was honored as a member of the All County Orchestra in her freshman year, as a result of her A-plus audition rating at the All Country Music Festival.

Roach volunteered to help and encourage younger flute players in the elementary schools through the “Practice Buddies” program and has received her varsity letter in music. She plans to attend Abilene Christian University in Texas, with a major in music.
