Rotary Club Student of the Month: Mary Elizabeth Lacki has been a resident of Grand Island all her life and has attended Grand Island schools since kindergarten. Throughout high school, she has kept busy with her involvement in extracurricular activities through the school, sports and community service. During her high school career, Mary Elizabeth has participated in many organizations and has received many honors. Freshman year, she was on the varsity track and field team, gaining a fourth-place sectionals patch, and was named Rookie of the Year. In 10th grade, she joined the varsity cross-country team, where she has excelled t be this year’s lead runner and captain. She has since then gained many NFL patches and numerous medals from different invitationals and meets from both cross-country and track. Lacki has participated in the high school musicals, and last year, had the lead role as Adelaide in “Guys and Dolls.” She plays percussion in the wind ensemble and sings in madrigals, vocal jazz and concert choir. Lacki is a member of Spotlighters, Interact Club and Student Council, where she held a position on the Head Decorating Committee for the past two years. She also is the co-vice president of the National Honor Society and is the historian of the Class of 2005. For the past two years, Lacki has been a religious education teacher through St. Stephen’s Church. In addition, she has taken part in church plays, as well as supervising the younger children. Over the summer, she was a soccer coach and a referee. During high school, Lacki has received many awards, including the National Student Council Award, Who’s Who Among American High School Students, the Academic Excellence Award and the honor or high honor roll. She has earned the Scholar Athlete Award many times, the Coach’s Award and Most Valuable Player for the cross-country team. After graduation, Lacki plans to attend Niagara University where she will pursue a major in theater. |
