Mark this one on your calendars.

The Lower Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce has announced that June 4 and 5 are the dates on what it is now billing as the 10-Mile Garage and Sidewalk Sale in “The River Region.”

According to Chamber board chair, Janice McCaw of HSBC USA Bank’s Lewiston branch, “The sale has expanded from six miles to 10 miles as it will now encompass households in Sanborn and Ransomville, as well as Lewiston and Youngstown.”

And it promises more for everyone, according to Chamber President, Sandy Hays-Mies. “This event, formally known as the Community Wide Garage Sale, is expected to be bigger and better than ever, drawing more than 125 participants,” she said.

Sponsors for the June event include Paul Game of Paul Game Construction/ An Independent Barden Home Dealer, Jamie Whalen and Barbara Ballantine, owners of Lewiston Apothecary and the Kelly House Gift Shoppe and Skip Mazenauer of the Lewiston Porter Sentinel and Niagara Frontier Publications.

In addition Lewiston retail businesses will be participating with Sidewalk Sales, which will be held both days during the event.

Homeowners in the Lewiston, Youngstown, Ransomville and Sanborn areas are invited to participate. All participating residents whose home is located in Lewiston, the Village of Youngstown, or hamlets of Sanborn or Ransomville will be included on the 10-Mile Sale Map as part of their particpation fee.

“Previous participants who listed their sales on the map had much more success than those who advertised on their own. Treasure hunters really enjoy following the map,” said Hays-Mies.

Applications are available by contacting the Chamber at 754-9500 or by logging on to its web site at www.northofthefalls.com.

The applications may also be picked up at the following locations:

The Village of Lewiston Municipal Hall (Red Brick School), 145 North Fourth St.; The Little Yellow House, 476 Center St.; The Olde Time Barber Shoppe, 478 Center St.; The Dory, 435 Main St., in Youngstown; Market Place in Youngstown, 200 Lockport St.; HSBC Bank branches in Lewiston, Youngstown and Sanborn; Key Bank, 493 Center St.; The Village Bake Shoppe, 419 Center St.; DiCamillo Bakery, 535 Center St.; and First Niagara Bank in Ransomville – 2547 Youngstown-Lockport Road.

More than 10,000 maps will be published and distributed. In addition this event is being promoted throughout Western New York, and in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Hays-Mies said this event has become such a money-maker for participants that it is growing by leaps and bounds. “Two years ago, one of our participants sold not only the contents of their house, but also their house and their car. It’s a great opportunity to clean out your basement or attic and make some money in the process,” she said.

The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, May 13 at noon. No exceptions will be given. Only the first 150 applications will be accepted.
