Grand Island Dispatch, April 29, 2005

Myrna Blair is a 40-year resident of Grand Island. She has three children who attended and graduated from Grand Island schools.

She also has five grandchildren, ages 8 to 2.

Blair previously served on the Grand Island School Board from 1996 to 2004. She was vice president of the board in 2003-04.

Blair is an accountant with Christine A. Learman. CPA, PC., where she is responsible for reviews and compilations for small business clients, as well as tax preparation for corporations, partnerships, fiduciaries and individuals.

She has worked both as an accounting manager and a high school mathematics teacher.

Blair served on the Erie County Association of School Boards Executive Committee from 2000 to 2004. From 1999 to 2004, she was a member of the State Legislative Network and the Federal Relations Network. She also served as Grand Island School Board liaison to the Comprehensive District Educational Planning Committee.

Blair is founder and president of the Grand Island Foundation; a former member of the Leadership Council of Grand Island Connections; and a team captain for the American Cancer Society Grand Island Relay for Life.

Blair commented that these past experiences have increased her awareness of student needs as well as provided her great satisfaction in giving her all in board service.

“The most important responsibility of being a board member is to act as an advocate for children and the public,” she said.

“I have a true love of children, take great ride in their accomplishments and am in awe when they fulfill their potential,” she said. “As a board member, I always have tried to balance this love with the responsibility to taxpayers of the community to put their resources to the optimum use.”
