Maction rolls poker tournament

Niagara Wheatfield Tribune - November 18, 2004
Lewiston Porter Sentinel - November 20, 2004

John McEvoy, a Lewiston native and Las Vegas resident, took home the top prize in the Seneca Poker Classic Sunday at Seneca Niagara Casino.

Maction, as he’s known in these parts, made it to the final No Limit Texas Hold’em table, where it was decided that players would split the pot. The second through seventh place winners would take home an equal share, with the remaining money up for grabs. McEvoy, who honed his skill in math classes at Niagara Catholic High School in the late ‘90s, systematically eliminated his competition to take the night’s top prize.

McEvoy is currently employed in Las Vegas. He returned to Western New York for the weekend to visit family and friends. He entered the Seneca Poker Classic on a whim with some friends, and won the tournament, which featured more than 400 participants - including “Mr. Kotter” Gabe Kaplan.

Maction dedicated his victory to longtime inspirations Justin and Kelly.
