Scott Celani, one of the most talented singer-songwriters in Western New York, returns to the Gallagher Center to kick off the spring semester of “Rockin’ the Ratt.”

Celani, who last year released “Them Apples” at the Tralf in Buffalo to a gathering of more than 500 people, is once again working with Toronto record producer Brent Bodrug of The B-Group Music (Alanis Morissette, Jacksoul) on the follow-up, due out in March.

“It’s a little bit different,” he said. “It’s still got some of that polished rock, but it’s a little more on the singer-songwriter vibe end of things. It’s a lot more interesting than the last record. It’s still very catchy tunes with hooks, but a lot more interesting.”

Celani’s music is indeed catchy. Moreover, his lyrics are smart and heartfelt, and his voice is full-bodied. He’s worked with a vocal coach in Atlanta whose know-how has helped polish the chops of big name singers including Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, Edwin McCain and Ed Roland from Collective Soul.

His song “Where Did You Come From” is playing on up to 40 stations across the country, up to 40 times per week on some stations.

“I work with a radio promoter in L.A.,” he said. “He marketed it to a bunch of stations. Basically, it’s a question of whoever picks it up, that’s anywhere nationwide, including the Virgin Islands.

“Actually, one of the stations that played it more than anyone else was in the Virgin Islands.”

Celani has signed on with a college booking agent, and will be touring the east coast in support of his new material.
