About Us • Contact Us • Staff • History • 2002 MLP Award • Niagara Frontier Publications and the Lew Port Sentinel have been selected to receive the Morgan Lewis Partnership Award, named after the founder of Lewiston. The history of NFP dates back to 1944 with the publication of the Island Dispatch. This community newspaper was originally published bi-weekly. In 1949, the Mazenauer family launched their own publishing business with the start of the Grand Island PennySaver. In 1978, when the time was right, Skip Mazenauer purchased the Dispatch and seven years later he expanded it with a Niagara County edition known today as the Niagara Wheatfield Tribune. In the mid-1980's the Lewiston Business Association began to recognize the need to have a newspaper that carried local business and community news. They also believed that having a local publication to advertise in would generate sales. The board of directors went to work and interviewed several candidates with the promise that the successful company would have the financial support of the business community. True to their word, the GLBPA and its then president, Sam Sperazza gave the new newspaper their full support and on Valentine's Day in1987, the Lew-Port Sentinel was born. Today, the four papers owned by Niagara Frontier Publications reach over 88,000 readers. Year after year, NFP newspapers have held the status of "Official Newspapers" in each of the communities they serve. Today, the Sentinel is delivered to over 10,000 homes and businesses in Lewiston, Porter and surrounding villages and hamlets. The arrival of the Sentinel on Saturday mornings is an anticipated event in many homes. Readers know that when the open the paper, they'll find the latest news on community events and folks they know. It's hometown coverage at its best. Now fourteen years young, the businesses in Greater Lewiston continue their full support of the Sentinel. They recognize that their advertising in this very local paper translates into sales and new customers. The people of Greater Lewiston aren't the only ones who recognize the fine quality of the Sentinel. Over the years, NFP has received numerous awards for editorial content and marketing creativity including several from the New York Press Association. Their staff has grown to include over twenty five full and part time employees and another 48 students and adults who are members of their delivery staff. While Lewiston supports the Sentinel, NFP and publisher Skip Mazenauer return the favor ten-fold. They willingly support community events and have employed many area residents over the years. Terry Duffy, the Editor, resides in Lewiston with his family, as do two account executives. Owner and publisher Skip Mazenauer has served on the GLBPA Board of Directors for the past four years, but the company has had a presence on the board since 1987. Skip manages to find time not only to cover our local events and community news but he personally has served on many of our GLBPA committees including our marketing and membership committees. He rarely misses a board meeting and always makes it a point to stop in the office to keep abreast of our issues and projects. We applaud the success of NFP and Skip Mazenauer and thank him for his dedication to our community. Both are tremendous assets to our Greater Lewiston family. Skip and his wife Judy (also an employee of NFP) reside on Grand Island. They are the parents of three children |
