Niagara Frontier Publications' roots go back to March 3, 1944 when the first issue of the Island Dispatch made its debut. Published every other week, subscribers paid $2 a year for their community news. In 1950 the Grand Island PennySaver was launched and during this time The Dispatch passed through the hands of various owners. Taking over after a number of years, Publisher Skip Mazenauer purchased the Dispatch in 1978. NFP's presence in Niagara County also enabled the two start-up newspapers, the Niagara Wheatfield Tribune and the Lewiston Porter Sentinel, to follow in the Dispatch's successful footsteps. Both have expanded to complete coverage in their respective communities.

Over the decades, a considerable amount of changes have been made in all four papers in design, layout, and content. Year after year, they have held the status of official paper in each of the communities in NFP's circulation areas. NFP's newspapers deliver quality coverage and public appeal that is continually enjoyed by readers and advertisers today.

In the Lewiston Porter area in the 1980's, several newspapers submitted proposals to the Lewiston Business Association to create a weekly paper that would capture residents' attention. Due to NFP's increasing coverage already in the area Niagara Frontier Publications won hands down.

With an eye toward growth and further expansion into Niagara County, NFP has exclusively developed special pull-out tabs that reach over 40,000 households. Popular are the Summer Festivals, Annual Winter Boat Show, the Lewiston Christmas Walk and the Holiday Gift Guide. NFP's community involvement also includes sponsoring and co-sponsoring many local events.

Readers and advertisers have grown to rely on NFP's presence in their communities and have accurately named NFP the "Papers for the People."
